Reviews
This book is filled with beautiful peices of music that sound great. My wife (flute) and I (guitar) have played several and the end result is very pleasing. Overall, we are pleased with the purchase and recommend it for any guitar flute combo. Having said that, my one criticism, and it may be a matter of personal preference, is that the guitar pieces appear to have been written by someone who understands the properties of the guitar but is not a guitarist. The parts are playable but they are not always what I would have written. I am sure that the arranger was sometimes limited by the music and had to make choices. However, like most guitarists, I prefer two and three note voicings with some low notes to give fullness to the music. These arrangments often feature the guitar playing single note and two now voicings in the mid-range. It took a bit of adjustment and some practice to get used to the arranging style but it was worth it in that every piece we have played so far which include the Bach "Andante" (BMV 1034), Bach 'Arioso" (BMV 156) and Purcell, "Minuet in G Major" Z660, have been very nice. I feel comfortable playing these pieces anywhere. Overall, this is an excellent book. It is a great value and includes a lot of music for the money. The bottom line is that the end result, the music, is excellent. Lastly, I could have lived without the tab but I suppose that was the publisher's choice. Without it the pieces would be easier to read and there world be less page turns. Ultimately, I scan and digitize the music and use a foot pedal for page turns so it is not that big of an issue. It would be nice if the tabs were separate or not included at all. Another reviewer summed it up nicely. "If you need tab Bach is probably not for you"
