Reviews
One of the first books I bought on Kindle was the free version of Alice in Wonderland, which has no pictures. As Alice herself says, 'what is the use of a book without pictures or conversations?Without the pictures it is simply not the same reading experience.Recently, I borrowed the Annotated Alice from the library and read both Alice books that way, with the full text of both books, the Tenniel pictures, and annotations, including the origins of various nursery rhymes, and explaining various references. Although you could read Alice without this, all this does considerably enhance the reading experience.I also own a version of Aiw by Sterling Classics, which has outstanding color illustration by Robert Ingpen, with art on every page turn which would be a talking point on any bookshelf, and one you would love to show off to visitors. I originally bought this as a gift, but I am very reluctant to part with it.So, in searching around for an illustrated version you can read on Kindle, I don't think it's possible to do better than the BLTC version of ATTLG, which this is. It has all the Tenniel pictures. In fact the grayscale on the Kindle gives them an extra dimension in shading, that I did not see on the paperback version which was very black and white in look. I consider this my best Kindle purchase in terms of quality and useability and pictures on Amazon so far. With Alice, with the variety of creatures some unfamiliar and hence difficult to imagine, a picture does paint a thousand words. What does a jabberwocky or a gryphon look like?Unfortunately, as all reviews of every version are lumped into each review, it makes it very difficult to assess the merits of a particular edition. Amazon needs to separate these out to help the customer. Here are the links:Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (BLTC Press Edition) Original story, complete with beautiful tenniel grayscale pictures, for $1.99The Annotated Alice: The Definitive Edition Both stories complete, with Tenniel picures, and annotations.Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (Sterling Illustrated Classics) Original story plus oustanding illustrations by Robert Ingpen.Alice's Adventures in Wonderland The free Kindle version with no pictures. If you want the complete collection of Lewis Carroll, I recommend the Complete Works of Lewis Carroll (Illustrated)which has both Alice Books with pictures. If you want to read illustrated books on Kindle I highly recommend this publisher. Just put BLTC Press in Amazon search bar, to search out their other titles many are well known titles, judging from other purchases well formatted, and some of which are illustrated.I hope you found this helpful, and I think you will love it.
